Chapter 6 test questions

Developmental Psychology Unit
Post Assessment:

Three of the following five questions will appear on the chapter 6 test. You will be given the option to answer two of those three questions in essay form. Each question will be worth 50 points.

1. Compare and Contrast at least two developmental theories. Include all parts of each theory including who proposed the theory and examples of each step to receive full credit.
2. Argue the rights of multiple genders and how they have changed worldwide over the last century. Be sure to include at least two relevant studies that show whether or not gender has a social, cognitive, or biological basis.
3. Explain how attachment is developed using social developmental theories such as that of Bowlby and his predecessors as well as ways to test attachment using the strange situation paradigm.
4. How is resiliency able to compensate and reinforce for negative environmental and developmental factors. Utilize at least three experiments and their outcomes in your answer.
5. Argue how media has changed the look and self worth of adolescent children and how globalization may affect this idea in the long run. Include at least two developmental theorists’ ideas as to why this occurs at this age.

1. Explain in detail one of the research methods that is used at the sociocultural level of analysis. Include the reasoning as well as two studies that illustrate the use of the method.

2. Define attribution theory and give an in-depth analysis of the research to discuss two errors that occur.

3. Compare and contrast Tajifel’s social identity theory vs. Moscovici’s social representations. Give real-life examples of each and be sure to explain the relevance in modern society.

4. Describe the way stereotypes are formed, maintained, and overcome? Be sure to use appropriate chapter vocabulary and research that helped identify each step.

5. Evaluate Bandura’s social learning theory using two studies that confirm as well as one study that disagrees with the theory. Reflect on flaws within the studies and what can be done to make them more valid.

7. Use the Asch paradigm to define conformity and explain why people adhere to others thoughts and actions using two studies. Also, explain why some people do not conform and give an example of one study that demonstrates this.

9. Explain Sherif’s Robbers’ Cave experiment. Associate how the experimenters were able to utilize social identity theory along with the contact hypothesis to eventually develop superordinate goals. What were some ethical considerations that were not taken into account during the experiment and how could someone replicate this experiment using modern society,

10. Compare and contrast a biological basis of prejudice to sociocultural learning. Include at least three experiments that give a scientific backing to both perspectives.

2. Give a detailed description of the conformity experiment by Asch (1951) including the results. Demonstrate two problems with the experiment which could include other experiments that had different outcomes.
